New Cub on the block makes CSK proud

Here I come........

18 May 2011 ,IPL – 64th match

Chennai Super Kings v Kochi Tuskers Kerala

Chennai Super Kings in Chennai and  whoever may be the opponent leave them bewildered and leaves them gasping for breath as they sweep past them to mark their victory. This is the scenario from the very first game when CSK sneaked past KKR. CSK who are now sitting atop the points table comfortably and are very much promised for one of the top 2 spots unless anything different happening  on the final day of the league matches.

MSD and Parthiv(A former CSK) walked for the Toss which eventually was won by MSD and who without any hesitation chose to bat on a pitch which looked slow and two paced. Huss and Vijay walked onto the crease and as usual started slowly and when RP returned bowl the 3rd over vijay was in his usual mood slapping three straight fours until RP delivered a perfect yorker on the off stump which made vijay clueless and later stumpless . Then Raina came and gave his former teammate behind the stumps a welcome gift and parthiv rejected it much to the wrath of Sreesanth ,Then raina released his wrath in Sree’s next over scoring 16 runs in 3 balls before holing out the next delivery to mid on. Then the ever resilient Badri came and gave hodge some charge before holing  out to RP in deep (yesterday’s offer for KTK : give boundaries get a wicket free). Then much to the surprise when everybody was expecting the wicket keeper batsmen to arrive at the crease he arrive but his name was different he was called as W.Saha who was taking care of the deep boundries as fielder in quite a few matches now and for the very first time this IPL came to face a delivery. Huss could not get a move on and Saha was very new to the crease and CSK’s score looked stand still for some overs before saha upped the ante by sweeping jaddu for a six and huss who was struggling gave up his wicket and stepped in Dhoni and he along with saha started increasing the run flow but dhoni nicked one to his counterpart and walked off  then Albie came to infuse fire power but much to his like ball did not bounce much and saha carried on hitting at least a boundary of every over and an much needed six . they scored 21 runs of the last 2 overs with saha missing out on a well deserved 50 with CSK finishing at 152/5 setting up a reasonable total to fight it out.

KTK’s chase is on missing mahela this time around Parthiv opened with Mccullum and Ashwin opening the bowling this time. ashwin started up miserly  and bollinger continued the same way and the stand in skipper parthiv gave his wicket the softest of ways and Mccullum tried everything dancing down the track, sweeping, steeping back, walking down the pitch but he could not get a move on particularly against ashwin who bowled  3 overs in his first spell. G.rao(V.rao’s) brother started to get a move on against jakathi before falling to bravo’s famous slower one.Mccullum and hodge rotated the strike and scoring the necessary boundary often and KTK for the very first time started to inflict pressure on CSK before jakathi made a copmeback cleaning up Mccullum. Then hodge realised it is already too late to get a move on and skied one towards Vijay who while  holding on to the regulation catch was too complacent and dropped the catch making him look like an amateur on the field. Hodge later gave a final burst in the penultimate over from bravo’s and Vijay would have had a stinky stomach . Later Bollinger came onto finish the match with his trade mark last over and CSK yet again won @ home. KTK finished at 141/5  falling 11 runs short. The little known Saha was adjudged the MoM.

The story of CSK seems very simple in this tournament , They do not win by huge margins but they still win it by a considerable margin, they are to lose then, there should be rain or valthaty kind of innings  on the ranks. They can now boast about having the best NRR in the tournament and they are the only team to qualify for the play off’s 4th time straight and they are the most consistent team of the tournament at home. To their credit yesterday’s MoM to saha was their seventh player this season to win the award in 9 matches with Huss winning it thrice (!Badri hasn’t won it yet!). They now have nearly 7 accomplished match winners.

Remember! Finals is in Chennai too….

Gilly & Marsh Forcibly Stops RCB wagon

So, this is how it feels! when i do the same

IPL – 63rd match,17 May 2011

Kings XI Punjab v Royal Challengers Bangalore

The match between two teams of contrasting fortunes one team which has already made a startling comeback and qualified for the playoff’s , the other making a startling comeback after being written off to keep their slimmest hopes alive. The fortunes of both the teams rested upon their respective left handed openers and there ends the story. One fired big and one gone with the wind and the result reflected it.

The Start of the match was slightly delayed because of mild showers and that was the only point where KXIP would have been worried. In the Toss met the veteran great and a young & growing star of Indian cricket and Gilly won the toss and without any hesitation elected to bat. The start of the innings had no significance in the rest of the match until 4 overs when valthaty left when the score read 25/4 and nothing quite started and Gilly has scored just 2 runs of 8 balls until he started it all with his trademark pull over deep square leg for a six of Mithun and following that over both Marsh and Gilly found rhythm scoring a six and a four each and the in the next over  gilly gave gayle his own medicine scoring two consecutive biggies and came Langeveldt who was sent to the cleaners as gilly scored three consecutive biggies this time. KXIP,now have scored 99/1 in 10 overs . There were another 4 mediocre overs bowled  and KXIP were flowing freely then came Marsh should his wrath on van der Wath with 3 towering sixes and 3 classy fours in a single over (!30 runs!), this over gave the impetus and rain gods also got interested to the match and there was a small halt and when play resumed  it stayed the same as marsh  and gilly  were almost unstoppable until the 19.5 when gilly gave his wicket after scoring what can said as one of the most dominant centuries of this IPL that too from a veteran of his age and that too at a strike rate of  nearly 200 and one can say anything but vow!. Marsh out of no where holds the Orange cap to which he is no stranger at all. Before we could and even RCB could realize what was happening KXIP has set a towering total of 232 for RCB to breach and Much was expected of Gayle who is in murderous form.

RCB came into bat this time without Dilshan (do they miss him). Two Lefties in Gayle and S.Tiwary came in. praveen bowled the first over to gayle and to everybody’s shock bowled a maiden to Gayle(seriously!). Then to add another shock gayle was dismissed the next over by rhino for a 7ball duck(7ball duck? gayle?).then kohli the another ray of hope also knicked one to the slips leaving tiwary all the burden who also succumbed to the pressure pulling one to D.Huss in midwicket and  all was left for Ab.devillers , little known A.pathan and experienced  kaif but RR was touching the Himalayan peaks with every over and all succumbed to the scoreboard pressure and by 13 overs RCB were 89/7 with the required rate nearly 21 and there was nothing left to fight(even for pride). KXIP has shut out all doors and increased their net run rate which was their big worry and that to handsomely. RCB were eventually bowled out for 121 at the end of 17 overs and handsomely beaten by a margin of 111 runs and all the NRR that gayle gave took a big beating as it went  down to +0.283 from +.850 and KXIP are now 5th in the table and RCB retained their 1st position with only a match in their hand while others have two. KXIP is all smiles after the win and is expexting a fall by either KKR or MIand not likely CSK again because of NRR.

The tournament which did not live upto the expectations until now has a chance to live up now with three results going in the following manner

MI Vs RR- RR wins

KXIP Vs DC – KXIP wins

If these results happens as such then the final of the league matches would be most likely be going down as the most viewed match of the tournament as it will determine the final team to qualify for the playoffs and KXIP would already  be qualified upstaging a miracle and either KKR or MI would be facing down the barrel if it happens.

Somewhere in the other world Windies Win

I am for the taking(wickets)...

Pakistan in West Indies Test Series

1st Test, Providence Stadium, Guyana

When the most of the cricketing world has forgot about Test Cricket after a carnival CWC 2011 and an ongoing IPL T20 extravaganza and when two of the most disturbed cricketing teams which are in the headlines for all the wrong reasons for quite a while play together in that  format and who is to be blamed for such a low key tournament.

Still, Whatever may be the reason and whoever may be playing . They are playing cricket and that too international level and the game never ceases to surprise and only the spirit of cricket can help a series like this one to get some attention and oh boy! it really did. For the first 3 days of the match i would bet much of the cricket followers would not even have heard about a test match that is being played in Guyana and after 3days when the game entered the 4th day i would again bet all of those who ignored got into the groove to know the result. This match is one for people who suggest big scores alone could draw attention. This match would be etched in history with almost half of the dismissals in the match are LBW’s and sammy would take credit for five out of it and do remember that sammy did it all by his own in this match ,capturing a total of 7 wickets out of which 5 were LBW’s and two disturbed the wood work. For, Pakistan saeed Ajmal got the breakthrough’s with a total of 11 victims falling for his variety of spin.

In this match totally dominated by bowlers another bowler sizzled not only with the ball but also with his bat providing a gladiatorial resistance , Bishoo the tiny dynamite seems to be a runaway success for Windies who are in search for a matured spinner and they seemed to have found the answer. Windies who were struggling in the ODI’s before restoring some pride continued their winning form in the test beating Pak’s with a 40 run margin which is supposedly a huge margin considering the scenario of the match where only a total 716 runs were scored  over 4 innings that to for the fall of 40 wickets with a match high score of 52 by the ever sensible Misbah-ul-haq.

Sammy was correctly adjudged the MoM for his match winning performance in the 4th innings.Sammy finished with figures of  7/45 in 29 overs for  the match.

Still Not many would worry about the next test……

Badri gets the call as India tours Windies

The World Cup is over, IPL nearing it’s end  and Indian Cricket never seems satisfied with the no.of days of Cricket. IPL got underway even before the mess caused of celebration is cleaned up in Wankhede. Now The Team Would be on the Flight to Windies  nearly after the IPl curtains comes down.

The selectors had some breathing time in between IPL to sit down to form a team which is now the champions of the world in all formats of the game.  This will be the first challenge for the Newly crowned ODI champs. Sachin  has not selected India to play to get his body some respect. While Dhoni&Zaheer were given rest by the teamwhile sehwag is looking after his shoulders. A fresh look Indian team is being selected with Gauti(nowadays being called “double G”,which very much similar to India’s gully cricket term 2 G reffering to runs granted ).leading the charge and lot of new faces getting a look in definitely not reflecting their IPL performances but Domestic (Isn’t IPL a domestic competition). Badrinath a committed cricketer, technically good, consistent for the Domestic and widely regarded as the most unlucky talent in the country gets a look in again backed by domestic performances. Karthik being neglected ahead of Saha is a huge surprise and Rohit Sharma get’s a look in again to prove his mettle. Y.Pathan again selected and i kind of not satisfied of his selection and this Windies tour is going to be a final tour if he does not shine.Sreesanth  shunted out correctly and vinay kumar and Ishant gets a look in for some seemer friendly tracks, Bhajji stays and he has to perform or else  selectors will start to question him also.

Ok, lets See whats On store this season……. in the ever Breezy but slightly Boring Windies..

Anybody Heard about KTK Vs KXIP

IPL – 57th match

13 May 2011,Kochi Tuskers Kerala v Kings XI Punjab

Yesterday was a very tense day down south in Kerala and the reason being definitely not the KTK Vs KXIP match in Indore. It was the Elections results , Atleast the result of the elections were so tensed that KTK cannot afford for their fans the whole season. I hardly think of people watching the match in Kerala forget about Punjab , the Punjabi’s very rarely do so.

Rattled them ~yes ofcourse~

The match was nearly a dead rubber both team posing the slimmest of slimmest chances to qualify for the playoffs that the T.V anchors have much hope than their fans does. These two teams can be said as the most inconsistent teams of this IPL (DC and PWI are more consistent at least in their losing). The similarities that both team face are they are the only teams to have beaten both CSK and MI and lost to PWI,This alone shows the amount of consistency shown by both teams. Yet,They battled it out in Indore hosting it’s first IPL match and very few eyeballs would have been interested(ignoring the camera men).Guess what, Miss.Zinta had showered some words of wisdom to her boys(boys????Gilly heard it??).

KTK supposedly playing in their home(only KTK owners knows  the connect between  MP & Kerala) lost the toss and the wily Gilly chose to bowl in a flat track(one of Zinta’s Advice i guess). KTK came into bat and immediately started firing all cylinders with the very first over went for 15 runs and Mccullum and J’wardne ran away with plenty of boundaries and kochi went onto score 103/1 in their first 10 overs losing the likes of McCullum . then the momentum swung towards KXIP who consolidated the next 10 overs only for 75 runs and KTK ended with just 178 which appeared below par considering their start,The chase was ON.

KXIP started their chase knowing very well much depended upon their top 3 . Paul Valthaty and Gilly knew it very well and started carefully before valthaty cut loose smoking two sixes of RP singh on the on side ,he got a little over aggressive and eventually lost his stumps in the same over and now when it seemed it was all upon Gilly and Marsh, Gilly gave Parthiv some catching practice again of RP.Singh leaving Marsh , Karthik and KXIP  @ 31/2 . The match solely rested on Marsh’s shoulders as Karthik who always after a good start loses it , D.Huss terribly out of form and  a very little known lower middle order in chasing a big target. But, Karthik stepped up to the occasion and Sreesanth back to his own form of giving away freebies , Parameswaran also still could not get out of the Gayle Fiasco , Vinay Kumar also could not do much more(He is on his way to Windies after IPL). Runs started to flow very freely from Karthik’s and Shaun’s willow as KXIP stabilised @  84/2 needing 95 of the last ten. From, then on 5 sixes were scored from the next 3 overs  and Karthi and Marsh have scripted a good comeback and @ 14 overs they needed 37 of 36 . Then,RP.Singh came back and packed both Karthik and Marsh of the 1st and last balls of the same over, KTK smelling a twist in the tale. But, D.Huss stayed there until the end and avoiding any twist and Sreesanth was bowling of what became the final over and KXIP cruised to a comfortable win and keeping the slimmest of hopes for the playoff and KTK were shown the doors in what was supposedly their home ground. Karthik was handed the MoM for his blitzkrieg innings with a strike rate of over 200.

KXIP should winn all the rest of the matches and wait for other teams at the  to fail miserably to go to the playoffs.

KTK have all the doors shut and should wait for the next season.

Lions Roar Continues in their Den.

Flying rather higher

12-may-2011, IPL- 56th match

Chennai Super Kings v Delhi Daredevils

The sun rose on East, Earth got polluted,Chennai Was Hotter, Chennai Batted First and as usual  CSK won in Chennai. This season of Ipl-4 no team is as dominant as CSK (Even MI) in their Home. CSK has developed this habit of not disappointing their home fans much like Rajasthan(Until the pitch Fiasco) .

Much not so like in his national colors MSD wins too many tosses for the Yellow Brigade. The Strongest Aspect of the CSK (Not to forget their fielding,But) is their batting and Dhoni is always comfortable in exerting pressure on the other teams and he does have the goods for it. Meanwhile, The DD coming in to the match nothing to lose and a clear underdog with sehwag leaving them to look after his shoulder (It is the shoulder which lonely carried DD’s hopes this season). Hopes coming in as skipper and losing his first toss did not do much good to DD’s confidence.

The match started with Huss and vijay coming to a huge roar from the crowd and the start for Chennai was not usual with their main run getter falling for Irfan in the very first over. Raina CSK’s mainstay got a good start with vijay in good hard hitting mood slapping agarkar over mid wicket and long on for two 6’s in his first over and then came exiting Aaron Varun with his bunch of short balls upsetting the rhythm of both Raina and Vijay and the CSK innings stated to dip in Run Rate and eventually Raina holed one to irfan waiting in the fine leg fence  then Vijay could not get a move on even after getting several leases of life ,while “The great wall of Chennai” Badri kicked to his usual slow start and pressure got the better of vijay as he was caught inches of  the boundary line by Venugopal Rao. Then came the biggest price for taking Vijay’s wicket Dhoni came in and to everyone’s surprise got going from the very first ball and while badri was was slowly rotating the strike Dhoni went big guns thrashing atleast a delivery of every over for a boundary. At 15 overs CSK were 105-3 and were comfortable for reaching a score of 140-150 and it stayed that way until 18th over then came Agarkar who’s over eventually went for 20 runs with sixes flying from both Badri and MSD and then came irfan who bowled an quite impressive last over until the first four balls with dhoni launching the final two for maximum’s and pathan was reminded of his nightmare in Dharmasala last seaon with the same kind of treatment while in different colors and to his dismay finished with a horrid figures of 4-0-40-1.The tone being set for the CSK bowling with 176 in the board.

The DD’s innings started with the suddenly out of form Warner and Naman Ojha who had good memories of a good knock in MAC,chepauk. Their inning’s started aggressively with Ojha Firing two 6’s of morkel and DD’s scorecarcd read 30-0 in less than 3 overs before ojha got carried away holing one to jakati at mid off. Then came ingram and he too went off disappearing to a Bravo! effort from Bravo.then Venugopal roa joined Pathan after warner departed to another good catch in the outfield by vijay and this partnership provided some substance to the Delhi innings but the run rate was climbing like a snakes venom  and screboard pressure got venugopal roa as he tried to send ashwin to the cleaners only to find he was clean bowled.Then. Hopes was the last hope for DD and he also could not hold on for much long and perished soon and irfan did some late flourishes and it was all formalities and the curtains came closing with the end of the allotted number of overs and chennai again claimed vitory in home and curtains for DD in this IPL.

With the victory CSK has now won 10 out of their last 11 matches in home.Remember, Finals is gonna be played here as well.

CSK now sits top of the table with 16 points and a healthy NRR and an excess of 1 match than MI

This is the first time CSK has beaten DD at home out of their 3 meetings.

The Blogger Who Missed it

If somebody comes up to you saying I want to be a Filthy Rich and next thing he says “I hate to work hard for it”.what do u feel ?.Can you handle that attitude . That’s the case of the subject here.. This is how this story goes(A Short story rather).

There was a time where lived a guy who loved sports and literally could not start his day without a dose of it. He would jump into any conversation involving any sports and he always wished he’d be involved with it in one way or the other but it remained only as a wish for quite too long . Later in his life trail he forgot his passion which was raring to come out, then the mighty internet provided him an option to follow his passion along with his life trail,Then too he adopted a different passion forgetting the one he has,but nothing could not be Hidden for long and his inner flame of passion made him aware of it and thanks to God he started following it . The guy become one of the million bloggers and started blogging all about sports and he reached a point where he was doing it with ease and just got started to get minimal recognition  with his closer groups ,but nothing stays for long. The game of life closed the Gap which was used for his inner-self, His plans crumbled and the funniest thing is that … he wasn’t even aware of it. His immediate plans went to toss one by one . The Guy who wants to be a great sports enthusiast and sports writer funnily missed (only to write) the much anticipated and later became the historical CWC 2011(!Forgot to say “He Bleeds Blue”!) and the second one to go for a toss was the glitz and glamorous IPL 2011 .  Is their anything more to miss for a sports blogger in India .

I Think there “is” and I doesn’t want too miss anymore.

The Story Does not End Here .

It Continues………………………
